Day 1      MADRID

Reception at the airport and transfer to hotel. At agreed time, panoramic visit of the city of Madrid: Calle Alcala; Gran Via, cultural and commercial heart of Madrid, Paseo del Prado with its worldwide famous museums: Prado , Thyssen-Bornemisza and Reina Sofía.

Dinner and accommodation.

Day 2      MADRID

Breakfast. In the morning visit of Prado Museum, one of the largest in the world. With 200 year-old, nowadays, the Museum’s collection has more than 7,000 paintings, 1,000 sculptures, 4,800 prints and 8,200 drawings, in addition to a large number of objects of decorative arts and historical documents. If in the morning we have devoted to painting, in the afternoon we enter in the more traditional and former Madrid: discover new corners of the Barrio de las Letras, unique in Europe. During the Golden Siecle famous writers and others artists shared more than profession: once lived in this area which has become one of the most crowded in the city centre of Madrid. Dinner and accommodation at hotel.

Day 3  MADRID                                    

Breakfast. Free day of leisure for shopping, visiting the museums that are pending, etc.

Optional day trip to Toledo: important city in the history of Spain for centuries.

 

Day 4      MADRID-SEGOVIA-ÁVILA

Breakfast. Departure for Segovia (World Heritage Site). City tour: we will visit the famous Roman Aqueduct of the II century, the Cathedral of Santa Maria and the Alcázar, from XIIth century and Royal residence of many  kings of Castilla. Lunch and departure to Avila. Dinner and accommodation. Then we will do a night tour of the city: from the coach we will see the impressive Walls of the  city. We will continue the guided tour walking through the charming corners, churches and palaces of this medieval city.

Day 5      ÁVILA-MADRIGAL-SALAMANCA

Breakfast. Visit of the Cathedral, authentic fortified church unique in the world; the Basilica of Saint Vicent and the Monastery of Saint Thomas, founded by the Catholic Kings, inside of which we can admire the Museum of Oriental Art. Near half day trip to Arevalo. Lunch in a typical restaurant where you can taste the famous suckling pig. Continue to Madrigal de las Altas Torres, birthplace of Isabel the Catholic the most influential woman in history, and Vasco de Quiroga, among other famous people. We continue to Salamanca. Dinner and accommodation.

Day 6      SALAMANCA-PLASENCIA-CÁCERES

Breakfast. City tour of Salamanca, one of the most beautiful cities in Spain: the University, the oldest in Spain and one of the oldest in Europe, founded in 1218; the ‘’Plaza Mayor’’; the Old and the New Cathedral, bound together; the wonderful ‘’Casa de las Conchas’’, etc. Lunch.

Excursion to Plasencia. Sightseeing tour in Plasencia to ending the day in Cáceres.

Dinner and accommodation.

 

Day 7      CÁCERES

Breakfast. City tour of Cáceres. Its old town, beautifully preserved, transports us to the Middle Ages: Arco de la Estrella, Catedral de Santa María (s XV.), Palacio de Moctezuma, etc. Lunch. Afternoon: free time to walk through the old town and enjoy the charm it offers. Dinner and accommodation.

Day 8      CÁCERES

Breakfast. Full day excursion. First stop: Trujillo, called “cradle of conquerors”: Pizarro, Garcia de Paredes, Orellana and Nuno Chaves were born in Trujillo. Highlights in this town are the Market Square with the statue of Pizarro, the Castle of the IX century and numerous palaces. Next stop will be Guadalupe, where we will visit the Royal Monastery, of impressive proportions and which houses the Museum of illustrated books. Lunch. We continue to Villanueva de la Serena, birthplace of Pedro de Valdivia, conqueror of Chile, and we finish visiting Medellin, birthplace of Hernán Cortés, conqueror of the Aztec Empire. After this full day excursion we return to Caceres. Dinner and accommodation.

 

Day 9     CÁCERES-MÉRIDA-SEVILLA

Breakfast. Departure to Mérida, founded by the Romans in 25 BC. Visit the Amphitheater with capacity for 14,000 people and we will also visit the fabulously preserved Theatre, with 6,000 seats, where theater festivals are still celebrated today. Lunch and departure to Seville. Dinner and accommodation.

Day 10   SEVILLA

After breakfast, city tour of Sevilla: ‘’Torre del Oro’’, Holy Cathedral (the largest Gothic church in Spain) and the Giralda Tower, a former minaret, etc. All cultures, starting  from the Romans, through the Arab, until Christian, have formed Sevilla and the special way of being of its people. Lunch. Free afternoon of leisure to enjoy this charming city: Triana’s Neighborhood, the banks of Guadalquivir river, Maria Luisa Park, etc. Dinner and accommodation.

Day 11   SEVILLA-CÓRDOBA

Breakfast. Departure to Cordoba. Visit of this unique city, washed by the Guadalquivir River, where a solid Roman bridge connects its banks. We will walk through the streets of the Jewish quarter, and visit the Synagogue, unique in Andalusia, with inscriptions of Hebrew Psalms (14th century), etc. Lunch and free time of leisure afternoon. In the night tour we will visit – in a spectacle of light and sound – the Cathedral, also called Mezquita (due to its muslim origin), heart and soul of the city. The Mosque began to be built in the 7th century and has capacity for more than 50,000 people in its interior. Dinner and accommodation.

Day 12   CÓRDOBA-GRANADA

Breakfast. Departure towards Granada; city that offers every kind of art: Oriental, Gothic, Renaissance or Baroque. Arrival and visit with official guide of the Alhambra, jewel unparalleled of Arab architecture in the world. We will visit the Palaces, the Patio de los Leones, Generalife palace, etc. After the tour (approx. 3 hours) free time to enjoy the splendid gardens, fountains and pavilions. Lunch.

In the afternoon visit of the Cathedral, the largest Renaissance church in Spain; and the Royal Chapel where the remains of the Catholic Kings are. Dinner and accommodation.

Day 13  GRANADA-MADRID

Breakfast. Free time of leisure in the morning when you can walk the streets forming the District of the Albaicín, since 1993 declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Reaching some of the viewpoints you will get the best views of the Alhambra. Lunch. Departure to Madrid. Arrival, dinner and accommodation.

Day 14  MADRID

Breakfast. Transfer to the airport.
